I want to introduce myself. My name is Paula Rood, MSN, NP-C. I am new to the Napa Solano Plastic Surgery team but have been in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine for about 25 years. I am passionate about safety and compliance in the aesthetic practice and have worked with California legislation on regulations along with publishing a manual “Compliance in the Aesthetic Practice” in 2007. I have been a clinical educator for the past 15 year with various aesthetic companies and products. As aesthetic medicine has evolved, the non-surgical procedures are trending toward regenerative medicine. One of my favorite procedures are the PDO (Polydioxanone) threads. They help with facial and body tissue re-approximation and collagen stimulation. Facelift surgery is the gold standard, it can turn back time without altering the beauty of the face. But, for those people for whom a facelift may not be the ideal approach or they are not ready, there is an “in-between”: Nova Threads.

Nova Threads are a thread-lift technique that has been approved by the FDA and widely used to help men and women regain their youthful vibe without the risks and downtime associated with surgery. Nova Threads are the only PDO thread manufactured in the United States. The Nova Thread Lift is a non-surgical procedure that lifts the subdermal tissue. PDO sutures have been used in surgical procedures for many years. The thread lift technique places these sutures, which may be barbed, smooth, or twists to achieve different results to provide an immediately scaffolding. Over time, the sutures naturally dissolve, but their effects remain because they increase the production of collagen, giving the rejuvenating effects of the treatment. The truth is, PDO threads area great way to tighten sagging skin, reduce wrinkling, and create new collagen. Skin is left tightened with less wrinkling and improved elasticity. It is like aging backward!

A Nova Thread Lift is a convenient, comfortable procedure that is conducted in our office setting under local anesthesia. They are placed in strategic positions to help hold the forehead, cheeks, neck, or other structures in place. The procedure is completed in about 45 minutes. Other than slight redness that decreases in a few hours and slight tenderness for about a couple days, patients typically do not encounter side effects that keep them from their usual activity.

So, remember, Botox and dermal fillers are great but we also need to address the collagen when talking about skin rejuvenation.
